Shochu Diet: Week-8

I’ve now been on my shochu diet for 8 weeks. I must admit the World Series has made it hard to substitute shochu for beer as often as I would like since I’ve yet to find an izakaya sports bar in New York. Hagi has TVs, but haven’t tried to go there to watch a game.

Nevertheless, I’ve managed to continue to lose weight, albeit at a slower pace. I gave a bit back in week 7, but I’m now down a full 10 lbs from 8 weeks ago.

Shochu Diet: week-6

I’m sure you’re all wondering just how this shochu diet is going.

 

 

6 weeks and I’ve lost 9.4 lbs.

My Wii Fit, for the first time since I bought it nearly 2 years ago, is finally saying “That’s Normal” when I do a body test. I can’t tell you how annoying it was for someone who considers themselves active and fit to hear “That’s Overweight!” every time I’d take a test.

The Shochu Diet

I’m the last guy you’ll ever see falling for fad diets. I even get annoyed when my friends say, “I’m on a diet.” My attitude has long been that portion control and good eating habits are all it takes to keep the weight off. Obviously this isn’t the case for everyone, but it should work for a majority of us.

I’ve never thought of myself as having a weight problem (and I still don’t), but a couple years ago I got Wii Fit. And the very first time I did a “body test” it said, “That’s overweight” when reporting my results.

Tasting Notes: Nankai

Nankai Shochu
At first whiff, Nankai smells faintly grassy, which is common in kokuto shochu owing to how kokuto sugar is made from fresh cut cane and that fresh grassiness is a sign of well made kokuto sugar. Sugar cane is, after all, a tall perennial grass. It is still pretty wild that they can capture that after fermentation and distillation.
